It is my duty as President of the NCASC Board to inform you that the North Carolina
Afterschool Coalition Governing Board has voted to merge with the North Carolina
Center for Afterschool Programs (NCCAP). As many of you are aware, the economy
has taken a toll on everyone including many service based organizations. After months
of discussion and deliberation, the Board felt that this merger would create stronger
opportunities for high quality professional development, scholarships for professional
development, train the trainers, stipends, and more! We have high expectations for
both organizations that will benefit the front line providers and bring the biggest impact
to the school age children across the state of North Carolina. We sincerely hope that
you will support both NCASC and NCCAP as we move forward in this venture and in
professionalizing the field of afterschool in North Carolina.

As of January 1, 2013, the Governing Board also voted that the North Carolina
Afterschool Coalition will no longer be a membership-based organization and as a result
will no longer represent NC as an affiliate of the National Afterschool Association. You
may continue to be a member of NAA and join through their website at www.naaweb.org
Your current membership with NAA will expire December 31, 2012.
